7 of the best wedding favours

Wedding favours can very often be an after thought - something that people tend the pay the least attention to or even omit altogether. I love a wedding favour and I think they can really top off a fabulous day and be a real talking point, particularly if they are thoughtful and reflect you as a couple.

Traditionally, sugared almonds or something with marzipan have always been given to guests as a thank you for coming to the wedding. When I receive these, I usually put them in the back of a drawer and forget about them until the next spring clean. Don’t get me wrong, i’m always grateful for a gift, but a sugared almond is a bit outdated in my books. There are tonnes of great ideas for wedding favours for every budget, but here are my top 7:

  • Hangover Kits. A truly useful gift for every guest, and can contain pretty much whatever you like. They can be highly personalised, so if you know your BFF can only get over a hangover by drinking Ribena and throwing back the gummy bears, stick it in their bag.

  • Personalised biscuits/sweets/chocolates. My personal favourite, because who doesn’t want an edible gift? Think cookies with your names and/or wedding date on, hand painted Macarons, brownies topped with pressed edible flowers, mini packets of love hearts - the choice is endless.

  • Donations to charity. A friend of mine did this and it was beautiful. Each person’s place setting had information about the charity that had been donated to on the inside, and there was an accompanying badge/ribbon for the guests to take home. Particularly poignant when a close family member has suffered with an illness and cannot be at the wedding. Tears all round. i’ll tell you that.

  • Mini bottles of your favourite alcohol/cocktail. Maybe you and your partner like different things - one is a gin fan and the other more of a rum guy. Have one bottle for the girls and one for the boys, or 2 bottles per guest (if you really want to get the party started). They can also be personalised with your names, date of the wedding or a little message.

  • For smaller weddings, what about a small plant to take home? Perhaps a succulent or something you have grown in your own garden. A really lovely idea for the green fingered amongst you.

  • Another one for the smaller weddings - personalised Lego figures. I ADORE this idea. Firstly, how fun would it be to make mini versions of all your guests and family members? Secondly, think of their faces when they see their Lego caricatures. Hilarious. And think of the photo opportunities!! Immediately tries to convince all her engaged friends to do this.

  • A handwritten note and your favourite photo of you with that guest. I promise you they will keep it forever, and will be a great warm up for the speeches. Plus, very affordable.
